About the wine
I picked up "Le Per son Pain: Muscadet Sèvre Et Maine" from the Vintage Cellar this week for $15.95. It is a white wine, the grape variety is melon de bourgogne, and is from the Loire Valley region of France. The vintage year is 2021!
Anjouwinefestival.com Review
"Le Per son Pain" is one of Anjouwine Festival best sellers, as stated on their website. The wine was made on lees, is bright and crisp, has fresh fruit aromas, and is minerally. On this website, there is a scale that features Oakyness, Tannins, Body, and Acidity. This website said that there are high levels of acid and tannins and lower levels of oak and body.
Wine Folly Review
On page 129, Wine Folly says that it is known for its "lean, minerally white wines that pair famously with seafood." It primarily grows in France, should be served fairly cold, and has flavors of lime, seashell, green apple, green pear, and bread dough. It also says that the acidity is very high, while the tannins, sweetness, body, and alcohol are all pretty low.
On page 230, it tells me that melon de bourgogne is grown close to the coast and that the wines labelled "sur lie" where aged on lees to gives them a rounder mouthfeel and yeasty aromas.
Personal Review
This wine was amazing and maybe so far, my favorite! I picked it up because I saw on the label at the Vintage Cellar that it paired really well with seafood and I was having salmon for dinner so I thought the two would pair well. A few hours later and a messed up salmon piece, I drank the wine by itself and was very surprised. I kind of picked it up on a whim because I didn't talk to any employees and get a recommendation because they were all busy, so I did some digging for myself. Similar to most whites that I have tried and enjoyed, this one was crisp and not sweet at all, something I was a little worried about. It was great on its own and I feel like I did taste the fruity flavors coming through. I wish I had smelt it because it is known for its yeasty aromas and would be curious to see if I picked up on that. However, it was really good and I would 100% get it again.
